Signs of Life ... and Death?

With the shot of heat air that ultimately hit Middle Tennessee yesterday (and looks like it will adhere all around for a whilst), I experienced the urge to go out and stroll the backyard, taking photos of comeback kid crops and these that have put on a disappearing act.

This is what I located...

This is the oakleaf hydrangea I mentioned above. The new leaves are unfurling at the suggestions of the branches even as the outdated leaves nonetheless dangle here on. I might say that our oakleaf hydrangea was semi-evergreen in its very first winter, but the old leaves are even now gorgeous - colorful and nearly like they are etched with frost. I believe it's thrilling to se e the new and the previous facet-by-side, each and every gorgeous in its very own way. Seem ahead to watching this plant bear its metamorphoses throughout the year. And now for some not-so-fantastic information. As you can see, the buffalo grass patch is still searching pitiful. Not a one signal of green on any of the tufts. They might be useless for all I know, or possibly just even now dormant. Possibly way, I are unable to picture planting a greater patch of buffalo grass here in Middle Tennessee. Even if it is lower-expanding and eco-friendly in the summer time, I cannot picture having the garden appear like this (or a version of this with the dormant grass far more stuffed in) for the duration of five-six months from November to April.
This is a shut-up on a dormant tuft of buffalo grass so you can see just how pitiful and scrawny it looks. Not astonishingly, I had to weed this patch heavily before in the winter...
