I am a college student on a tight budget, and I go to school in Phoenix, AZ. I want to fly home to see my family in Memphis, TN either in November or December. Ticket prices from Phoenix to Memphis is extremely expensive. I really want to see my family, since I haven’t seen them since we started school. Does anyone know of any ways to get cheaper flight tickets? Maybe a good website or discount codes?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Gerald J:Try kayak.com, they search most of the airline and multiple travel websites to find the best price. Kayak does not sell tickets, but directs you to the airline or travel sites if you want to purchase.

Keep in mind that holiday ticket prices are high, you may not find good prices during Thanksgiving or Xmas/New Years.

Patricia:Check out www.TripAdvisor.com which compares all the sites. Also, work with your dates. If you are looking at Thanksgiving, the busiest times are Wednesday afternoon/evening and Sunday afternoon. It you will look at early Thursday morning and Sunday before noon, you often find deals and a lot fewer fliers.

Holiday periods are the most expensive, the most heavily traveled, and the earliest sold out. Work around those periods and book well in advance. If you can wait until January, you should have better luck because it is off-season.

potatochip:Since you are a college student, then you most likely will be flying during the holiday times of either Thansgiving or around Christmas. Tickets will be expensive if you fly during that time. I suggest you check out http://www.airtran.com as that is the only discount airline that flies into Memphis. Memphis used to be a hub for Northwest before they merged with Delta. Now it is a Delta hub so I don’t think that city is really cheap to fly into since there is not a lot of competition nor a lot of discount airlines fly into this airport.
